In our current telecommunications world, we find an ever increasing number of users and technologies which are not always capable of “talking” to each other.
A Code translation or “transcoding” is required in many cases as clients, operators, service providers (ITSP) and Carriers use different equipments and technologies; which impose many challenges and complications for developing a good service with quality and free of technical problems.
There are many TDM signaling protocols and VoIP codecs in use today. In VoIP there are at least 5 different Codecs commonly and widely used (i.e G711u, G711a, G729, G723, iLBC). Clients and providers will use a specific codec as their preferred codec due to many reasons. These reasons include, but may not be limited to – Codec Quality, Bandwidth consumption, Tolerance to network conditions, processing power required etc.
While many VoIP equipment / Switches / Media gateways are able to support a wide range of codecs, the problem arises when there is a need to convert from one codec type to another. We offer specific transcoding services to allow your providers “talk” to your customers. Please contact us for additional information.
